Once you have a basic idea of where your character is coming from, you can roleplay as that character. Someone with their own desires and motivations, likes and dislikes. The point is: you need to see your character as an entity separate from yourself.
You don’t have to get too detailed right away. What do they care about? The thrill of the hunt? Duty? Justice? Family?.What’s their personality like? Are they friendly? Reserved?.
What this means is that you need to put yourself in your character’s shoes, or hooves, or flippers – whatever the case may be, and imagine what it’s like to be that character.
